AOC said that we have 12 years left. That was 4 years ago. So, we only have 8 years left, so why bother about global warming?

Left until…what exactly?

I doubt she meant that the world will end in fire and we're will all die in eight years. It's far more likely that she was referring to a point of no return in climate feedback.

Listen, climate change is real and caused by humans. That's not even debatable at this point except by idiots or sociopaths (or both) who are trying to make money off of your scientific ignorance. It's effectively 100% of legit climate scientists saying the same things, and the only real difference is how dire their predictions are.

Science works. It's not always right the first time, and entirely too often isolated studies are publicized by the press as if one study means someone significant and indisputable in isolation (hint: it almost never does). But it's extremely rare that an entire field is completely wrong for an extended period of time without even the slightest but of opposition.

Science (plus engineering) gives us the device you're reading this very message on. Science makes GPS possible, and is responsible for helping you live longer, healthier lives.

The dumbass theory that the scientists are somehow in league with…someone…to make tons of money off green technologies…it just doesn't hold water.

I'll say it again: Everyone with a proper background and skill in climate science agrees that we're in trouble. The few voices that broadcast on Fox who disagree are the ones being paid to disagree. Because of ratings. Because they want to attract your eyes to their propaganda platform for the sake of milking advertisement dollars.

Follow the money, right? Who has more money, big oil or the scientists who have to beg for grants to get to do any research at all?

Then there's Murdock and the Fox team who have said, under oath, that “no reasonable person" would believe the things that are said on Fox. That it's entertainment and not news. That go get their vaccines as soon as they can and laugh about the people who believe them that vaccines are bad for you.

Back to the climate: The point of no return is the point beyond which the climate will spiral out of control. The increased heat will cause the greenhouse effect to grow even faster, by melting ice that's currently holding on to greenhouse gases, releasing them into the atmosphere and accelerating the temperature gain.

No, we're not in an ice age. Climate change messes up global weather patterns, which includes sending arctic winds down to the US for longer periods than usual. Remember, the temperature difference that would destroy the world as we know it isn't that big. 5⁰C is probably enough for really bad things to happen. That's only 9⁰F. Given that arctic temperatures in the winter can frequently drop to -40⁰F, even a +12⁰F shift won't prevent snow from falling if the arctic winter is being blown in your direction.

The point is that if we don't cut back enough on emissions in the very near future, then it may become to late to stop the runaway warming. And that 5⁰C change still wouldn't happen overnight, but in fifty years we may be seeing mass extinctions in the oceans, sea level rise on the order of 100' or more, and deaths from natural disasters that (cumulatively) number in the billions.

But sure, make fun of AOC because your side has idiotically decided to politicize climate change in order to make more money for a bit longer before the world ends and they retreat to their multi-million dollar bolt holes in New Zealand. No, I'm not making this up. Google it.

This is a real problem that we need to address, if not for ourselves then for our children. And it's not too late to try to prevent disaster.
